Trailer and Key Art for Fifth and Final Season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan

STARZ today released the gripping trailer and key art for the fifth and final season of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” confirming Patina Miller’s return as Raquel Thomas, following a game-changing showdown with Kanan (Mekai Curtis) in the Season Four finale. “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” is a prequel series in the Power universe that explores fan-favorite character Kanan Stark’s entry into the drug business and his evolution from an innocent teenager into a ruthless kingpin, influenced by his mother’s manipulation and deception. Season Five is set to premiere Friday, June 12, with new episodes streaming weekly on Fridays on the STARZ app, and all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms.

In the high-octane trailer, Kanan is eager to seize the throne as Southside’s latest kingpin, alongside his new business partner, Breeze (Shameik Moore). But in a shocking twist, Raquel Thomas (Patina Miller), Kanan’s formidable mother, is still alive and no longer interested in protecting her once-beloved son. The accompanying key art underscores Kanan’s metamorphosis across the series from a naive boy into a cold, calculating villain, showing him split in two: on one side is MeKai Curtis, who has portrayed the younger Kanan on all five seasons of “Raising Kanan”; on the other side is Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, who played the role in the original “Power” series.

Kanan Stark’s journey over the last four seasons of “Raising Kanan” has been fraught with ambition, betrayal and relentless attempts to escape his mother’s shadow. He once looked up to Raq, eager to join her empire, but he soon learned the truth about who she really was and the secrets she was hiding from him. Forced to confront this web of lies, Kanan faced an existential crisis of self-discovery and emerged stronger and more resolute than ever. Although he embraced his true self, and broke free from his mother’s influence, he still couldn’t let her crimes go unanswered.

Now, in Season Five, Kanan’s true ruthlessness takes shape. He knows exactly who he is and who he must become to defeat his enemies. As his relationship with Raq reaches a point of no return, and any chance of reconciliation becomes a distant memory, war is inevitable. Kanan solidifies his place in the Queens drug game alongside Breeze, the Southside legend, and their alliance sets the stage for a reckoning that will ripple through every player in this dangerous business. Many sacrifices will be made, whether it’s the Thomas family facing the collapse of their reign, Unique fighting to preserve his legacy or the Mafia maneuvering behind the scenes. However, nothing will stand in the way of Kanan’s pursuit of power. After all, this isn’t the end for Kanan Stark. It’s just the beginning.

The “Power” Universe series is executive-produced by the creator and showrunner of the original “Power,” Courtney A. Kemp, through her production company, End of Episode; Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, through G-Unit Film and Television; and Mark Canton, through Canton Entertainment. Currently playing at the Helen Hayes Theater (240 West 44th Street) is the play Purpose. Written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (Appropriate, The Comeuppance), and directed by Phylicia Rashad in her Broadway directorial debut. PURPOSE is playing a limited 19-week run through July 6, 2025. The show runs at 2 hours and 50 minutes.

The cast includes Two-time Tony Award nominee LaTanya Richardson-Jackson, Harry Lennix, Jon Michael Hill, Glenn Davis, Alana Arenas, and Tony Award winner Kara Young.

Alana Arenas, Glenn Davis, Jon Michael Hill, and Harry Lennix all appeared in the play’s acclaimed world premiere at Steppenwolf in March 2024.

His Broadway debut was starring as "Harmond Wilks" in August Wilson's Tony Award-nominated play Radio Golf, and he has delivered notable Off-Broadway performances in productions such as Titus Andronicus. His regional theater work is equally impressive, with roles in classics like A Raisin in the Sun, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Othello, and The Great Gatsby. Beyond acting, Lennix has directed plays including The Glass Menagerie at Steppenwolf Theatre Company the stage version of Robert Townsend's The Five Heartbeats, which received three NAACP Theater Award nominations.

New Play ‘Segregated Society’ To Run Oct. 3-4 In Sherman Oaks, CA

Coming to California this Fall is Segregated Society, a new stage play, directed by Elisa Perry and written by Nakita Toliver. The cast includes Marty Austin Lamar, Sierra Nicolette Smith, Nakita Toliver, Michael Houston, Starla Parrish, Mark Chinnery, and Derek Michael. This is a community theatre production under Equity Contract.

About the play:

The story follows two friends united by their common goal of making a difference in the Black community. Drawing inspiration from The Black Panther Party, they devote their time to volunteering at a community center in Washington, D.C.

The play explores themes of social responsibility, the impact of grassroots activism, and the personal sacrifices involved in building community and achieving progress. Ultimately, leading both characters to a poignant crossroads of activism and ideology. Through a blend of tension, nostalgia, and emotional confrontation, the story encapsulates the struggle for social justice in contemporary urban landscapes.

The story captures the fight for social justice in today’s urban settings. The goal is to take viewers on a journey and inspire them to get involved with grassroots organizations in their own communities.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the following organizations, which are owned by black women. They need volunteers and donations.

Marty Austin Lamar is an accomplished educator, singer, musician, and songwriter. A proud graduate of the Florida A&M University's School of Business and Industry, Marty furthered his education at the University of Florida where he received his Master of Fine Arts degree (MFA) in acting. Marty is a member of the Actor’s Equity Association. Marty's creative and original sacred works have been featured on the Millennium Stage at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the historic Metropolitan AME Church of Washington, DC, and in the Washington Post for his leadership of the 6th in the City Chorus of The Historic 6th and I Synagogue. He has also been a featured writer for the African American Lectionary and The Shakespeare Theatre Company. Marty has served as a guest lecturer at Carnegie Melon University, University of Southern California, and the Segerstrom Center for the Performing Arts.

Sierra Nicolette Smith is an American actress born and raised in the Bronx, New York. A graduate of Rutgers University, Sierra began her film career in International Publicity, before transitioning into acting. She is a Meisner Technique trained actress, and member of the Towne Street Theatre company. Sierra splits her time between Los Angeles, New York and Atlanta. She is a member of the Actor’s Equity Association.

Theatre credits include For Colored Girls, 12 Angry Jurors, Wedlock of the Gods, and True Colors: Ain't No Mo'. On screen credits include Season 3 of P-Valley (STARZ), Snowfall (FX) and Station 19 (ABC).

Nakita Toliver is an American actress, writer and community activist. She has appeared in several film, television, and theatre productions. You may have seen her in Behaving Badly, Dodge City or Never Heard. Nakita studied at Lee Strasberg in New York while also training with Susan Grace Cohen and Tony Greco.

Elisa Perry, Director & Costume & Set Designer

Recently directed Lillian Hellman’s “The Children’s Hour” at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. Elisa’s “passion for fashion and interior design” gave her the drive and enjoyment to also, serve as costume and set designer for this production.

After landing in Hollywood, it didn't take long for Philadelphia native Elisa Perry (pronounced E-Lisa) to land the plum role of Miss Wilson, the principal, on the seminal comedy Everybody Hates Chris. She has continued making star turns ever since; in the Emmy-nominated show Godless on Netflix starring Jeff Daniels, in the film Roman J. Israel, Esq, alongside Oscar winner Denzel Washington, and worked alongside other Academy winners, Brad Pitt, Viola Davis, Colin Ferrell, and Cicely Tyson. She has worked with award-winning directors such as Steven Spielberg, Scott Frank, and Dan Gilroy. Her work on stage has garnered her a NAACP Theater nomination for her role as Delia in Pearl Cleage's "Blues For An Alabama Sky," and critical acclaim for her work in Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin In The Sun," and William Gibson's "The Miracle Worker."

Elisa caught the acting bug after viewing idols Diahann Carroll in the Hollywood classic Paris Blues and Diana Sands in A Raisin In The Sun. The late Sandy Dennis was a huge inspiration to Elisa after she saw her work in films Splendor in the Grass and Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf. The actress studied at the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York and later spent several years performing on stage and appearing in several independent films and television commercials. Elisa even lent her talents to the world of comedy for a time, performing stand-up to US troops in Kuwait, Iraq, and Kosovo. But acting remains Elisa's true passion.

Young made history as the first Black performer to win two back-to-back Tony Awards and to be nominated four times in a row. Paramount+ is releasing globally, as of March 5, one of its most notable Brazilian original productions. The series ANDERSON SPIDER SILVA, nominated for an International Emmy Award in the Best Miniseries category, is now available on the premium streaming platform across Latin America, including Brazil, and all other markets where the service operates, with availability in the United States beginning on March 7.

Directed by Patricia Cuffie-Jones from a script by Nneka Grestle, the movie stars Grammy Award-winning artist Erica Campbell as Cassie Newton, who is grappling with the consequences of her actions and the true meaning of faith and forgiveness. CJ Williams stars as Daniel, Cassie's husband, whose unwavering love is put to the ultimate test while Traí Byers rounds out the love triangle as Troy Stamps, the "other man" whose presence threatens to unravel Cassie's carefully constructed life.

Jasmine Guy rounds out the cast as world renown empowerment speaker, Anita Pierce and former NBA champion Matt Barnes makes his movie debut portraying the affable Detective Wilson in the thought-provoking film that explores the complexities of faith, morality, and personal integrity in the face of temptation and betrayal.

Maverick Entertainment has announced a release date for Another Man's Wife, starring Sydney Mitchell, Moritz J. William, and Taye Diggs. The film will premiere exclusively on Peacock on May 8, 2026.

Executive produced by Doug Schwab and Maverick Entertainment, Another Man's Wife is a Freeli Films production directed by Viere and tells an emotionally charged story of love, sacrifice, survival, and the impossible choices people make when pushed to the edge.

Another Man's Wife follows Shawn (Moritz J. Williams) and Maya (Sydney Mitchell), a married couple whose lives are upended after Shawn unexpectedly loses his job, placing their home and future in jeopardy. Their crisis deepens when Shawn's mother, Miranda, is diagnosed with cancer and needs costly treatments that insurance will not cover. Trapped by mounting financial pressure and desperate for a way forward, the couple encounters Brendan (Taye Diggs), a wealthy multi-millionaire who presents them with a shocking proposition.

What begins as a desperate attempt to save their family becomes a harrowing test of trust, love, morality, and commitment. As the consequences of their decision unfold, Shawn and Maya are forced to confront the true cost of survival.

Hitting theaters on May 15 from Amazon MGM Studios is Is God Is, written and directed by Aleshea Harris and an adaptation of her award-winning stage play of the same name. The twin sisters Racine and Anaia with disfiguring burn scars are ordered by their bedridden mother (known as "SHE" or "God") to kill their abusive father who caused their scars.

The movie stars Kara Young, Mallori Johnson, Janelle Monáe, Erika Alexander, Mykelti Williamson, Josiah Cross, Justen Ross, Xavier Mills with Vivica A. Fox and Sterling K. Brown.

Aleshea Harris is directing from her own script adapted from her 2018 stage play which opened Off Broadway at the Soho Rep.

In Is God Is, twin sisters Racine and Anaia have disfiguring burn scars and are eking out a dismal existence in a city that doesn’t feel like home. Though twins, they couldn’t be more different. Racine, whose scars are only on her torso and hands, is the defender, hitting back at their many bullies since childhood. Anaia, whose scars have marked her face, is the quiet one, content to live in her sister’s protective shadow.

Their world is upended when the mother they’d believed long dead summons them to her bedside and reveals that their father is responsible for her bedridden state as well as the twins’ scars. They listen in disbelief as she orders them to kill their father for what he has done. Will they take up arms and spill blood? Or find mercy on the road to confront the man who destroyed everything?
